Default Detailed Descriptions

Have you ever looked at your character and thought, where was he/she born? What is his/her background? What is his/her favorite food? Etc... Well I have, and I just had one of those lightbulb moments. What if when we create our characters we would also be able to make a description of that character. This would give our characters more depth. Take one of my characters as a short example.

Kronos the Sniper was born in Lions Arch, Kryta. His parents Crios, and Selena died shortly after his birth. They were killed by a group of skale, who were heading towards Lions Arch to avenge their captured brother who was captured by a wealthy merchant. Kronos was being cared for by his Aunt Deliah at the time of his parents deaths. Kronos was trained to weild a bow by his Uncle Kratos at age 10. To this day Kronos has hunted scale, from Tyria to Cantha to Elona, never ceasing to slay any skale he sees. Kronos hopes that one day he will slay every skale in order to avenge the deaths of his parents.

Isn't that a little more interesting than having absolutely no background? I think so. You could also read the backgrounds of others. Just click on them and press the = key, or whatever you set it to. By the way there should be a limit on how long it can be, say 150-200 characters (letters/spaces/other things)

Guild Wars has always been about the action. It is what appealed to me directly, right after the "online RPG without a subscription fee". As such I am always against implementations that make the game flow more towards sitting around and making cheese, or enchanting items and such. Keep the action goin I say.

(Directed at Shifting Shadows) It would take approximately 3 minutes to make a description of your character. And it would be an option, not a requirement.
(Directed at Knightsaber Sith) Thanks for the links it only makes the combined idea of all 4 of us stronger (me+the ones who made the other threads).
(Directed at Kakumei) I'm not sure if you think roleplaying is funny in a bad sense, or what your thinking.

I think he thinks roleplaying in a pure action RPG is a kind of sadly funny thing to try to do. That's certainly where I'm at.

I wouldn't oppose this idea, myself, but I can't fathom ever using it.

This reminds me (and heavily of kakumeis statement) of this guy I ran maybe 10 months ago.

We were running to Sanctum Cay just me and him because everyone left. His name was White Knight **** (let's not spam him )

He kept talking like one would in the olden days. And saying 'my white mantle brothers'.

Like take this for example, 'We must stop here in yonder village so I may learn the skill Galrath Slash to please my white mantle brothers.'

LOL and another LOLOLOLOL
during the run I kept saying, you know, you have to kill the white mantle soon. He kept saying 'I shalt not listen to your words. I would never go against my brothers.'

Finally when I got to Cay I was with my friend (in RL) and just had to yell, 'WHITE MANTLE SUCK. I EAT THEM FOR MUH BREAKFESTS.' and crap like that.

If I ever have to talk to another person like that because of this 'roleplaying' nonsense I'm just going to stop playing the game.

... come to think of it, it was just when I started running so about 15 months. And those statements aren't word for word (almost photo-graphic memory only goes so far back) but they were basically like that.

/unsigned for the story you should read above.

Wow, I didn't know you could start differently. I always thought if you started in Tyria you had to go through the presearing and stuff. I don't remember being able to have your parents die or have any at all for that matter. I don't remember the whole scale thing either, I'll have to check that out next time I make a character.

DDO had this feature. Almost made the game worth playing.

Roleplaying is excellent, it is wonderful, I've spent the last eight years doing it nigh-constantly--in IRC.

Guild Wars is not the place to roleplay. At all.

I love role playing, and in GW it is something nice to do while floating, usualy at the Guild Hall, away from people that tend to shoot you down for it.

Character descriptions, personaly I'd say if you have a RP Guild, have a forum and database with character descriptions. I tend to "fit" my characters "description" into a meaningfull name :P

we had this in SWG. When you chose to 'examine' a player it would show their self-wrote background if they chose to write one. I personally have backstories to fit all of my characters and would love to share them ^_^

Why all the posts here just to bash RP'ers trying to enjoy the story? You don't have to do it, but some people really like it. So why are you giving them so much grief for being different than you? That makes about as much sense as the people who watch TV 6 hours a day looking down on people that play video games.

I'm not into RP either, and yeah, I know it can feel a little like you're not in Kansas anymore when you unexpectedly run into people RPing in GW. But the world is a big place, and not everyone's the same as you. Take it like a man! And be thankful for the variety - the world would be very dull if everyone were the same.

I'd chose RP'ers every time over silly brats acting like they've missed nap-time. The RP'ers I've met aren't rude to strangers for no reason ... and if they are, at least they tend to put some creativity into their insults.

As for the OP, I would've agreed that yes, what harm can it do even if I wouldn't use it. But then I read the responses so far ...

So /notsigned and /sigh

For I fear you'd have a hard time finding the kind of entries you're interested in among all the ones that said "i pwn n00bs u all sux"

I suspect such an addition to the game would only make you sad. And I'm very sorry Issac.

Multiple Threads on same Subject = No-No. It doesn't make the voice of the people stronger - it only makes the job of the staff harder.
